Observation details
Medium-sized curlew with dark crown and eye stripes and dark brown overall coloration giving a "cold" appearance. Not buffy like Long-billed Curlew and notably smaller, with shorter more decurved bills. On the beach with a dozen Ring-billed Gulls. Did not see them initially and flew around after the gulls spooked. 4 birds spotted but one broke off and I lost it while the other three circled around calling constantly. Noted powerful flight and dark brown coloration, along with shorter, sharply curved bills (compared to LBCU). Later refound the Whimbrel that broke from the group walking on the beach in the same location.
