Media notes
Bird was first heard yesterday (ebird checklist …) around the same time – I.e after 1900 hrs IST. Yesterday the song was succeeded by the calls of the Large-Hawk Cuckoo (4 of them) however today the bird was preceded by a minute or so by the Large-Hawk Cuckoos. The bird appears to have been on a tall alder, about 50 metres from the observer but out of sight due to smaller trees in between. This clump of alder seems to be favoured by a lot of birds probably because of the loranthus, and dense canopy foliage. There were two vocalizations – both separated by about 10 minutes. The second sequence is longer than the first. The clarity of the vocalizations are affected by a) stream noise and b) not being able to pin point the bird and not being able to see it hence lack of line of mic The large-hawk cuckoos also vocalized much less than yesterday. This is, possibly, the first Lesser Cuckoo recording for Uttarakhand on ebird
Observation details
Two vocalization sequences , the first starting at 1911 hrs ISt , preceded by the Large-Hawk Cuckoo, Second vocalization was about 10 minutes later.
