Media notes
A red orbital ring around the dark pupil makes the eye resemble a Killdeer's.
Observation details
Heard one coo-coo-cooing distantly upon getting out of the car. Faster and not as deep as a Least Bittern. Later flushed one, that was evidently gathering nesting material from the ground alongside the path, when walking back to the marsh. This bird flew into a nearby tree and stayed there more or less motionless for @ five (5) minutes with nesting material in it's beak. Another bird was seen closer to the parking area on the way back, which landed a smaller tree alongside the path. Adult Black-billed Cuckoos have a red orbital ring and because of this resemble Killdeer in the eye. Adult Yellow-billed Cuckoo have a yellow orbital ring in addition to a yellow bill.
