Observation details
****Very rare in Cayuga county; apparently third record for county. First-summer bird on south end of the lake with Ring-billed Gulls. Spent entire time on shore, at times somewhat hidden by Ring-billeds due to slightly smaller size. From Laughing Gul by smaller size, shorter legs, smaller bill, bolder eye crescents, shorter wings, slight pink cast to breast and wing pattern. I had initially thought it may have been a more delayed 2nd-spring bird due to the more extensive black on the head and fully replaced primaries, but looking more carefully, the wing replacement appears to be that of a more advanced 1st-spring. Still present when I left.
