Observation details
Seen in the south end of the woods, and when low, very good but brief looks before it flew off. Strong TUVU aspect when perched, mainly referring to its carriage and coloration, but possessing a larger darker head and bright yellow cere unlike any vulture. When it flew low overhead, I got great looks at the thin bands on the tail, suggesting this is a juvenile. It’s circled once just below the tree top level and then started ascending, interacting with the Mississippi kites. It got pretty high, and then started drifting northward, into the wind actually.
