Observation details
Walking along the Farm Meadow trail just south of Swan Lake, we had stopped in a clearing to observe and photograph two young Bald Eagles soaring overhead. This bird suddenly came into view as well, drifting east to west across the trail directly over our heads. Brief but good looks with the bins and the zoom lens. Long, falcon-like wings and artful, floating flight, long flared tail and compact head/beak. No wingbeats; just deftly shifting its wings as it glided along in a gentle zigzagging pattern. Immature plumage initially confounded us completely. Seen 1:35pm.
