Media notes
A Least Bittern at Blandy Experimental Farm (Clarke County, VA) on 20 May 2019.
Observation details
Continuing. First discovered on 15 May 2019. Today I found the Least Bittern perched on a willow branch near the road at Lake Arnold. It never called, but it gave me a nice long 1 - minute look. A tiny heron (though when it stretches its neck, it doesn't look that tiny), with a yellow-ish bill, white eye, black cap and back, tawny neck and subtle tawny streaking down an otherwise white breast, Black flight feathers and bold tawny wing patches. Several photos taken.
