Observation details
Made routine stop while passing Bay Farm (Duxbury, MA) to check a vernal flooded area by the road when I noticed a flock of large dark birds drifting over the trees from the east (from Kingston Bay). My first thought was cormorants but my subconscious registered that the flock was too disorganized and relaxed as it alternately drifted and circled closer. As I scrambled for my camera, I realized that they were Ibis - lots of them. I made 3 counts averaging 32 individuals - many more than I've ever seen in Duxbury. [Coordinates: 42.003555, -70.717264] Unfortunately they never landed continuing to circle and drift westward/inland until they disappeared over Cretinon's farm. I drove to a couple of locations in Kingston but never could relocate them.. By the time I got my camera operational they were too close to get the whole flock in one snapshot; the best photo I could get was of 23 individual (see below).
