Media notes
The parabola was trained on a single Tufted Titmouse that made a variety of calls. A second bird can be heard singing from about 1:40-3:40 on the recording, but it was not near the bird I was recording. Twice, footsteps of hikers are heard -- they passed behind me as I was recording. When the bird flew down to the ground, rustling of leaves is recorded. Near the end, the Kip of the circling Osprey is audible. Right after the White-Breasted Nuthatch arrived on a nearby tree, the bird I had been recording flew away.
Observation details
The bird that was recorded was behaving in an interesting way. I don't know if it was a female or not, but it appeared to be very interested in staying in one little tree, as if it might be a potential nesting site. It moved around continuously, and also flew down to the ground under it, as if it was getting something to eat there. The tree was about 10 feet off the trail, and about 8 feet tall. It was just starting to leaf out. No other Tufted Titmouse came over to it, although this bird responded to another singing Tufted Titmouse by moving out of its favorite tree to another about 8 feet away, closer to the singing voice. But it didn't stay there long -- it quickly returned to its chosen tree, and the 2nd Tufted Titmouse did not come to either tree while I was watching.
