Observation details
A leucistic Red-breasted Sapsucker seen and photographed at the road crossing Indian Ford Creek. It might be a Red-naped x Red-breasted hybrid. The bird was very high in ponderosa pine trees and while it did not move much, it was not particularly cooperative regarding posing for full-body photos. There were some faint dark patterns visible on the back and especially in the tail feathers, but I did not see any obviously black feathers. The head and breast were red. The red extends from the chin about halfway down the breast. There was a small white patch above the eyes, white behind the nares and lores, and a white moustachial stripe extending from the beak below eye to below and behind the eye. Otherwise pale overall. Really a cool bird.
