Observation details
Bird was resting on the water about 60 meters off of Hornstra Beach, near western mouth of Elochoman Slough. See photo. Gull-like in build, not as bulky as Pomarine Jaeger. Of nearby birds, it appeared a bit larger than the Mew Gulls, and significantly smaller than the Western Gulls. Last third of bill black, unlike Long-tailed which should show half black; rest of bill appeared grayish. Bill appeared to be too long for Long-tailed Jaeger. In photo gonydeal angle inconspicuous, unlike Pomarine Jaeger; and near the tip, unlike Long-tailed Jaeger. The nail appears to cover less than half of the bill. Face and cap dark; rest of head and nape grayish and streaked. Wings brown. Breast dark with inconspicuous barring; sides and vent barred.
