Observation details
Possibly the same bird originally found at this spot last October. It was observed in the north-east corner of the southern loop on the Barrier Island Trail. There is an interpretive sign here about Spanish Stopper. To get to this spot, enter the trail at the sign (north end of the first parking lot on the right after entering the park), then walk north and take the shortcut east. You will pass a wooden seat and then reach the intersection with the sign. It was observed in this area. Documentation photos had to be taken quickly as the bird was walking away deeper into cover, with no adjustment for the poor light in the shade of the hammock, so they are of poor quality at a slow shutter speed. However they clearly show the bright white facial mark, the iridescent blue-gray on the cap and nape, and the rufous upperparts.
