NOTES: LIQUID BELL-LIKE NOTES. WHISTLES. DIFFERENT THAN NEW ZEALAND TUIS, POSSIBLY BECAUSE THERE ARE NO BELLBIRDS ON RAOUL ISLAND TO IMITATE; HOWEVER RAOUL TUIS ARE MORE LIQUID AND LESS HARSH. OTHER BEHAVIOR IS DIFFERENT. LIVING IN HIGH POHUTUKAWAS, THEY CATCH MORE INSECTS ON THE WING,FILLING THE ECOLOGICAL NICHETHE FANTAIL TAKES IN NEW ZEALAND. BIRDS FLEW AND HOPPED ABOUT IN POHUTUKAWA TREES. LOW FLAT IS AN OLD PASTURE ADJACENT TO NORTH BEACH, BUT SEPARATED BY SAND HILLS SURROUNDED BY GROVES OF SPREADING POHUTUKAWAS (METROSIDEROS KERMADECENSIS) WHICH HAVE LARGE RED POM-POM-LIKE BLOSSOMS. SEVERAL BIRDS PRESENT. SPECIMEN COLLECTED BY D.V. MERTON - LOCATED AT DOMINION MUSEUM. ADULT(S); MALE; FEMALE. Sound stimulation was (other): PLAYBACK. Response to playback: No response. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Park/Campus/Cemetery.
