Apparent Gull-billed Tern; Extremely distant bird in bad heat shimmer ; First seen flying in from the north, and my first impression was that it was a white-winged gull of some sort. I got the binoculars on it and realized it was a large tern with deep wing beats and an apparent short tail. From the distance I could barely make out any cheek spot or bill (photo review showed the cheek spot to be minimal -- though overexposure may be an issue). Wings seemed too broad and tail seemed too short for Sandwich.
