Observation details
This bird was running on the ground and popped inside of an ephedra (Morman Tea plant), the only plant around! Will post photos tomorrow. It was about the size of a Northern mockingbird with heavily streaked/spotted lower parts, including upper breast. Yellow eye. I did not hear it vocalize. This was just below Jackass Pass in San Benito County. This begs the question: could this species breed at the newly created Panoche Valley Preserve? (mitigated lands due to the installation of the solar array on the valley floor). Images from my point and shoot camera.
