Observation details

Gull similar to a herring gull. Smaller in size than various Herring gulls that were around it. Rounded head, and light eye. Extensive brown streaking on head and neck, some smudging toward the bottom of the front neck area. The bill yellow with a pink gonydeall spot. The spot had a tiny bit of black. That could potentially indicate an individual heading into the 4th winter/adult...or an adult plumage nearly complete. The gonydeal and culmen did not seem as ponounced as in nearby herring gulls. This is rare bird for Anchorage but reported nearly on an annual basis. Continuing sighting.
