Observation details
Crossbills in pecan trees cracking pecans. The Pecan trees and crossbills were located in Tarpley, Texas, right beside Williams Creek Road at its intersection with Pecan Lane and Valentine Lane - directly in front of the Tarpley Baptist Church, 141 Valentine. We stopped at that location because it is right next to Hwy 470 with easy access to Williams Creek and to a number of waxwings we saw in trees next to the creek. We were on a bird watching outing with friends from North Georgia who were visiting us before we all went to the Laredo Bird Festival. The next day (Feb. 6) we saw crossbills again in Bandera, Texas, City Park. They were in Cypress Trees near the 1st Street bridge over the Medina River. Not good photo subjects since they were at the tops of the trees.
