Observation details
While driving, I spotted the Harris's Hawk perched on top of a telephone pole. When I stopped the car to look at it with binoculars, I noticed that directly across the street, a Red-shouldered Hawk was perched on top of the opposite telephone pole, eating freshly caught prey. Between bites, the Red-shouldered Hawk kept glancing over at the Harris's Hawk, and the Harris's Hawk let out a screech every minute or two. I got out of the car to photograph it and it flew to a tree half a block away, where it sat for several minutes before taking off and flying out of sight. However, it returned about 5 minutes later and landed on top of another telephone pole where it sat for a few minutes, and then flew out of sight again.
