Observation details
Continuing rarity. We first heard the bird calling from behind the feeders at 10:22 am. We walked back and saw the bird briefly before it flew towards the feeders and out of sight. A short time later at 10:33 am the bird came into the feeders, giving great looks to all. Female plumaged bird with yellowish-olive green above and below. Deep black on head. Blurry/sooty black on chest lacked the clearly defined black demarcation between black hood and olive breast indicative of adult female, suggesting that this is a probable immature bird; sex unknown. Short mostly black bill except for lighter portion at the base of the lower mandible. The bird's call was a piercing rising and falling "seeiyu," somewhat reminiscent of the long slur of Rose-throated Becard. The call is what initially alerted us to the presence of the bird.
