Dabbling
Observation details
Larger than LESC in direct comparison. Clean white sides, gray back, black head, breast and stern. Head shape unlike any expected Aythya species; somewhat square but overall rounded with no sharp edges and lacking a high forehead. Uniform blue-gray bill. Foraged by dabbling. In the field, nothing about its overall appearance led me to favor any one species over another; my suspicion is GRSC x TUDU. A unique individual. What may have been this bird (but I didn't think so at the time) present here 3/2-4/6/2013. Head described with purple gloss at that time.
