Observation details
Reddish brown tail and wings. Grayish head and back. Bill dull yellowish gray. White underarts with sharp arrowhead-shaped reddish-brown splotches. Pinkish legs. Pale orbital ring. Heard giving a high thin "seeet" call similar to a Towhee and then giving the loud enthusiastic "smack" call notes I'm used to hearing from this species. Very skulky, found in dense mesic vegetation where the stream has deeply incised a portion of rock about 3/4 mile (perhaps more) from the parking area.
