Observation details
Bird first discovered and identified by Laurie Dann using her Leica spotting scope. The bird was very far out on the receding mudflats and at no time was it possible to make side-by-side comparisons with the numerous Whimbrel that were also feeding on the extensive mudflats. This bird was seen to make very brief flights as it moved further out onto the mudflats; during these brief flights the bird showed no white on either the rump or lower back.- i.e. it appeared to be entirely dark above (thereby presumably ruling out Eurasian Curlew).
