Observation details
Observed from a distance three different times between 7 and 9 pm; associated with small group of mallards. Bird was slightly smaller than hen mallard, but with noticeably darker body contrasting with light buffy head and neck. Head had dark eye line but no sign of dark cap or nape; dark spot at gape and olive-yellow bill. Bright orange legs. I didn't get good look at speculum; buffy chevrons on body plumage were faintly visible at distance. Also got long distant view in flight with mallard pair - bird was a touch smaller with clearly darker plumage; underwing was bright contrasting white color with thin band of dark color along trailing edge of wing.
