Observation details
Larger than all other gulls present--Herring, Lesser Black-backed, and Ring-billed. White primaries. Mantle white overall with some light brown mottling throughout. Bill is pink with a dark black tip. Legs light pink. Dark iris identifies this as a first cycle bird. Bird is much larger than Iceland Gull. Bill, head, heavier overall as well. Not really any other gulls to confuse this with. Originally found by Jim Hengeveld. I observed with several other birders who came and went during the 2 hours I was in the area. This writeup was done about 6 hours after I finished observing the bird. As this is more than 50 miles from Lake Michigan, this report is being submitted to the Indiana Bird Records Committee on February 2, 2019.
