Observation details
*Continuing. One record currently accepted by the MARC. This swan was associating with Mutes in the small patch of open water north of Clark Island, as it is labeled on Google Maps. It slept, preened, fed, and even vocalized. The vocalizations were a short series of deep, booming bugles that echoed across the ice. The bird was clearly larger than nearby Mutes. It had a long, sloping black bill, and the black in front of the eye was wide and not pinched. There was no hint of yellow anywhere on the bill. The border between the forehead feathers and bill was rounded instead of pointed anteriorly; a pointed border is more typical on Trumpeters.
