Observation details
An apparent Aechmophorus hybrid photographed diving fairly close (~25 m) to the southwest corner of the wharf. Showing more characteristics of CLGR, but also had some characteristics of WEGR. Head pattern showed strong characteristics of both species; bill was distinctly orange, but had a slightly dusky quality to it recalling WEGR; face had dark black surrounding the entire eye and reached horizontally to the bill with just a dusky pale spot on the lores; flanks were mottled with white like a CLGR. I was never able to get a look at the back of the neck, but I think that all the other characteristics observed are good enough to call this an apparent hybrid. Will post some photos on Flickr within the next few days. *Photo:
