Media notes
It's too loud and there is some echo from inside the enclosure. Because of the proximity to other caged raptors, I am not certain whether there are some sounds on this recording that were not made by either of the the two American Crows. I hope to go back and do another recording with the parabola on the other side of the enclosure, so as to reduce noises from other birds.
Observation details
Two American Crows were in an enclosure behind the administration building, apparently unable to live in the wild. I recorded them, using a parabola. One of the birds did almost all of the cawing, starting out near the front of the cage, then becoming scared of the parabola and retiring to the back from where the other smaller crow was watching warily. Then the bigger crow (who could fly) became bolder and returned to the front of the enclosure only a few feet away from the parabola and continued his cawing. At about 6 minutes there is some bill clicking and some other non-crow sounds, which may have come from the adjacent enclosure where there was a Great Horned Owl, but it is possible all of the sounds were made by the two crows. I couldn't see -- it was dark in the back of the enclosure. Early in the recording there are some almost musical notes, which I believe were made by the crows.
