Observation details
Small Loon in winter plumage swimming just below Dwinell Dam. Short needle-like bill, white breast, throat and cheeks, fringed by medium gray crown and nape. Eye was in the white part of the face. Back was black and white "checkerboard" with very fine white dots. Distance to bird prevented better detail in photos. We'll try again tomorrow for better photos.
