Observation details

Juvenile found yesterday by Bill Bousman. Dark/intermediate-morph bird. Dragged left wing (though not wingtip) low in water, and disheveled/wet/oily feathers on breast, though Mike Rogers saw the bird fly earlier today. Tail wet, dragged in the water. Limited/narrow dull, pale buff scalloping on upperparts, no pale edging on primaries. Bill short, tapered to blunt tip, basal 2/3 pale gray, distal 1/3 darker. It occasionally picked brine flies off the surface of the water as it swam near shore.
