Observation details
This bird attracted my attention on Jan-20, today I got better photos and suspect it to be an immature Tufted Duck. There is the vestige of a crest, the bill pattern is variable in immatures and so is not diagnostic. The shape of the side panels, the overall structure, it being smaller than Great Scaup and less upright than Lesser Scaup leave the hybrid option and Tufted Duck. I don't see any hybrid signs, I have seen most of the aythya hybrids out there, so Tufted Duck. The photos are doc shots at best but the crest can be seen and the shape and structure too. I have previous experience of the species.
