NOTES: Recorded in MS stereo from a canoe. Martha Fischer and I mounted the microphones to the bow of the boat and paddled around the pond aiming for general colony/roost sounds. I also recorded everything simultaneously with a Telinga Pro5B, hand-held, from the bow of the boat. All recordings were made on two Nagra ARES-BB+ recorders. The recording contains mostly mechanical wing sounds of birds flying about, flushing as we approached, etc. There are many vocalizations from numerous species. The majority of birds present were Eudocimus albus, but during daylight hours (and by using headlamps at night) we also noted the presence of Egretta tricolor, Egretta thula, Ardea alba, Mycteria americana, and Platalea ajaja. The latter two species were mostly located in a different section of mangroves and thus are not heard prominently in this recording. We estimated several hundred Eudocimus present in these mangroves. The moon was full and bright while making these recordings. Other Behaviors: Perform Visual Display. Habitat: Freshwater, Pond.
