Observation details
One was banded and had what appeared to be a transmitter on the other leg. Pictures taken through ferry window as we departed..wish it would have turned around so that we could read the band but apparently gulls don't respond to wishful thinking. Darn. It was perched on the dock at the IFA terminal, right next to where the IFA and Columbia vessels were docked. ***Update as of 1/15/19 - after reaching out to some recent contacts here in Alaska it turns out that this bird was banded as part of an ongoing study based out of Cordova. The bird is designated "J14". For more information on the study, visit https://gullwatch.vet.tufts.edu/.
