Observation details
Eagle Eye Oct.88 p.5; I found a large plover by itself, and I knew immediately it was either a Black-bellied plover or Golden-Plover by its short, stubby bill, relatively large size, and habit of running and stopping. I got great views through my scope and was able to obtain photos - it had a dark back, broad white supercilium, and buffy feather edges. It had light buffy underparts. When it flew, it lacked black axillaries. The buff speckling was not bright as I would expect in Pacific Golden-Plover. It had long primaries and short tertials (see photos), perfect for American Golden-Plover.
