Observation details

Immature male; olive back with no hint of red on nape; red on throat with a little bit of white beneath bill. First seen in large bulbous many-trunked pepper near center of the park (33.902168, -117.877508), between creek and slope to the south. Soon after it spooked to the westernmost giant euc along the creek, where it started working an exposed branch. However, I first saw this bird on the fourteenth; while all field marks remain the same, it was wary and did not allow me to get a photograph or sustained looks, so I held back until I could get confirmation. That day, I first saw it on the dead euc between the end of the Treeview Lane cul de sac turnaround and Rolling Hills Dr.; later I saw it working the pepper grove northeast of the creek/"bathing spot"; when spooked it would fly east up to the eucs on the vegetated hill, where I would lose it. So I think it ranges throughout the park, and likely some of the surrounding neighborhood. It is highly wary.
