Observation details
Found earlier in the day by shorebird savant Andrew Baksh. It was MIA when I arrived but was ultimately refound by Doug Futuyma. Bird appeared to be an adult male based on thickness and blackness of breast band. Bird had slightly paler and grayer upperparts than the Semipalmated Plovers with which it associated. Appeared to have slightly longer legs (particularly the tarso-metatarsi) and primary projection (giving it a more attenuated shape), but a slightly bulkier overall build. Head pattern was distinctive, with a sharp delineation between the black "strap" across the forecrown and the paler color of the rest of the crown, not graduated as in SEPL. Lower corners of the bright white forehead feathering extended rearward to a point just under the leading edge of each orbital ring, which appeared blackish/dark gray (not orange as in SEPL), blending in with the black mask. White marks above both eyes were bolder and more extensive than on most of the surrounding SEPLs. Bill appeared slightly longer and tapered more toward the tip than on SEPL. Partial palmation was observed between the middle and outer toes, but was lacking between middle and inner toes. Video: https://flic.kr/p/oBNApn
