Observation details
I was surprised to find this silent, tail-flicking empid near the north end of the park, foraging low in dense willows along the river. I observed it for about ten minutes at very close range (about five meters or less), mostly in dappled shade but sometimes in direct sunlight. The bird had olive upperparts, dark wings with two buffy-white wingbars and pale underparts. There was a very thin eyering. The bill appeared long and broad-based and entirely orange on the undersurface of the lower mandible. The primary projection did not seem very long to me. I was able to get a number of digiscoped photos, one of which I've pasted below.
