Observation details
Seemingly far more than normal, and many birds were working through residential hedges and shrubs in groups of up to 4; I presume many of these birds were displaced from native scrub habitats by the Woolsey Fire in November, though clearly large numbers probably also perished. Because natural scrub habitats on Point Dume were already presumably saturated with Wrentits before the fire, one wonders if these fire-fleeing Wrentits were excluded from the remaining native scrub by resident birds and were forced into presumably less productive exotic shrubbery in residential yards.
