Observation details
Pointy, thin bill, slightly upturned, but tip color indeterminate. Dark auriculars. Peak seems over eye rather than at back of head. Seen at north end of Lake Barney, first separately from the large flock of gulls, but also swimming among them. It also dove several times while in the 'gull area'. Gulls spooked after about ten minutes. The ducks and grebe stayed on the water. Last seen, the grebe was swimming at the far south end of the lake.
