Observation details
Identified later from photos. Location and maybe elevation a bit surprising, but a classic BWHA - compact, pointed-winged buteo with short tail showing 2 black and 2 white tail bands including one prominent white and one black band beyond legs, dark border to trailing edge of wing and primary tips, and pale underwings with light barring on primaries.Gray-lined Hawk most similar species but is maybe even less likely at this elevation and would show more curvature of secondaries where they meet the body.
