Observation details
Two female (based on their dark bills) White-winged Scoters. Both birds were large with an overall sooty brown coloration. Both birds had two large white smudges on their faces, one behind the bill and the second slightly below and behind the eye. The white wing patches were evident on both birds when they were at rest. I watched them dive many times and could clearly see the large white wing patches when they opened their wings just before they went under.
