NOTES: Although this bird had been singing as I walked up, it went silent upon my arrival; only after I imitated the song did the bird began calling, probably for a distance of 40-50 meters and apparently in the lower mid-levels of the forest; this bird was very responsive to playback (especially of the calls), after which it flew back-and-forth numerous times, initially giving three ÒshortÓ songs and then the longer trilled song; the short songs were recorded from a distance of 15-20 meters away and 5 meters up, most of the remaining songs were recorded at a distance of 10-20 meters away and 1-5 meters up, but in the last part, the bird was seen on a small vertical stem at a distance of about 8 meters and about 2 1/2 meters up in the lower mid-levels of good terra firme forest with an open understory about two-thirds of the way up the hill at and just beyond the sharp bend in the road at the draw; I eventually saw this bird very well and I described it in detail on the tape; just getting light at first but with the sun in the tops of the trees at the end; almost completely clear, calm, 73¡ F; don't copy second part where bird never calls. Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Different song. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest.
