NOTES: Recorded along Sendero El Ultimo Refugio right above its intersection with Sendero Palo Gordo; these birds were initially in the floor of the canyon but they moved upslope when they walked around me following playback; birds were on the ground, initially about 50 m away, but only 20 m in second part, and maybe as near as 15 m away in the end when calling upslope from me; at least two birds present with the orange-throated bird apparently the male, not the female as suggested in voice announcement; in response to playback of themselves, the birds gave intermittent songs (often separated by several minutes), peeping calls, and they made one full circle around me at a distance of 15-18 m; good forest with relatively open understory and a mid-level canopy; clear, calm, 54¡ F; sun hit treetops here at 6:25. Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Normal song. Response to playback: Different song. Other Behaviors: Mate, Advertise, Social Context: Family. Habitat: Cloudforest, Evergreen Forest.
