NOTES: Bird was unseen but initially about 80-100 m away, then 45 m away, and at the end about 55 m away, but at a much better angle; it was often difficult to determine how far away the bird was based on its song, but we saw the bird during the latter parts of this recording, when it was within the lower part of the crown near the top of a relatively large tree in moderately tall terra firme forest (canopy about 30 m in height) right at the summit of the hill; the initial part of this recording was natural but later ones were after playback of itself, in response to which the bird approached and was well seen; bird opened its mouth widely when it sang but it did not have any display as such; this was recorded at the summit of the Aguas Claras Road where this species was known to sing consistently; almost completely clear, generally calm, low 70s; this was recorded very close to where I had earlier recorded Columba subvinacea in cut #CAR05-72; this recording combines five files, the first four with the bird and the last with announcements (#CAR203-207; CAR166 Ð GPS coordinates). ML: Subject changed from recordist's original identification of Oxyruncus cristatus tocantinsi to Oxyruncus cristatus to conform to eBird Taxonomy (v. 1.55). -Jay McGowan/Matt Medler, July 2015. Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Normal song. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest.
