Solitary Sandpipers (with Mourning Dove). Murrieta Creek, Wildomar, CA. 4/23/15
Observation details
Observed both near where the creek from Palomar Street joins with Murrieta Creek. Both birds identical. Smaller than nearby Mourning Dove (see embedded photo). Dark brown above, with whitish spots. White eye ring. White lower breast and belly. Upper breast and throat were a streaky brown. Yellowish/green legs and feet. Two toned bills yellowish at base and darker at tip. Bills slender and tapered and about the same length as the width of the head. Dark wing linings seen as they flew or extended their wings. I made a point to observe the tails when they flew, and I could see dark central tail feathers, with white outer feathers and black bars along the tip. The birds called as they flew, "peet-weet".
