Observation details
**rare; white morph adult; overdue first for Tioga and a surprise to find on the ground among a flock of just 14 Snows; digiscoped and photographed in flight. It was especially nice to hear it calling with its high-pitched, less hoarse Snow Goose-like call and to be able to easily identify it by ear under these circumstances. All-white Chen goose barely larger than Mallard in direct comparison and about 50% the size of Snow Geese on the ground. In flight, it appeared closer to 65-70% of the size of the Snows. Wingtips (outer primaries) black, tail white. Head small and rounded and bill small, pinkish, triangular, straight-edged at base and lacking grinning patch. Digiscopes:
