Observation details
At least two of the 20 Fox Sparrows seen along Del Puerto Creek at mile 17.7 of Del Puerto Canyon Road appeared to be likely "Slate-colored," P. i. shistacea. Most, if not all, of the rest appeared to be the much browner "Sooty" Fox Sparrow. The "Slate-colored" Fox Sparrows were a plain dark gray on their backs, contrasting rather sharply with their rufous-colored upper tail coverts and having much rufous in their tails and wings.
