Observation details
First saw this bird on northeast side of estero around 11:45. The bird was standing on the shore, with large black wings outstretched, apparently drying them out cormorant style. The size of the long thick outstretched black wings versus the smaller white stocky body/neck was striking. I took a poor scope photo not the wings out, then a quick one with them in, but he flew when I closed on the west side of the lagoon. Later I found the bird to the west on one of two stumps sticking up in the center of the estero (ironically I found a double crested later in the day on the same stump--dc was taller) I took a scope photo as I approached the little pied.. The bird again flew away this time to the east. I took a photo with my camera that does not have a great zoom. But it does show him flying long neck outstretched, blunt yellow bill, white chest, Based on behavior (perching on stump, standing on land, flying with long neck leading, drying wings) and physical characteristics including webbed feet and splayed tail I believe this is a cormorant. Based on feedback and going out the next day, I now believe this bird is a young double crested cormorant. At first, based on looks I thought it might be a continent first little pied from the area of Australia.
