NOTES: This recording highlights one member of pair disturbed (though seemingly not overly distressed) by my apparent presence near a nest; this bird was well seen as it moved about but it also perched motionless for extended periods of time (often flicking its tail); bird was carrying what appeared to be a small whitish caterpillar crosswise in its bill (as was its mate when it arrived shortly later), this bird never flew down to apparent nest site in dense vegetation at base of tree, but its mate did; Brian Daniels looked for nest but was unable to find it; bird was initially 15-18 m away, later about 6 m away, and mostly about 5 m above the ground (though in tree on slope, so somewhat higher over creek); these birds were about 1 1/2 miles up trail in a place where the canyon closed in a bit over the creek with pines, maples, and Douglas Fir, but fewer oaks; clear, intermittent breeze, mid- to upper 60s. [These are presumably the Harsh Chip Calls of BNA, given as a scold by an adult carrying food. Quality changed from 1-2 to 2, 1-2 (some wind at first) - CAM - 1 September 2005]. Other Behaviors: Scold, Emit Alarm, Social Context: Family. Habitat: Forest, Evergreen Forest, Stream, Canyon.
