Observation details
Fifth county record. I spotted a crow harassing a buteo at pretty high altitude and watched, expecting to ID the hawk as a Red-tailed. But as it wheeled around I noticed that it had long pointed wings with no secondary bulge and that the underwings were bicolored, with pale wing linings and dark flight feathers. It was circling, drifting from west to east (eventually disappearing in that direction), and went over our heads at high altitude against a featureless gray sky, so visibility was not great and details weren't easy to see. It seemed to have a dark bib, but I couldn't see any features on the tail at all. Glenn Price was taking pictures with his telephoto lens as it went over and sent me his two best. His camera saw the bird better than I did!
