Observation details
This bird had bright yellow underwing linings despite not being shown in the picture. Its red malar stripe and clear nape eliminated Yellow-shafted Northern Flicker. It had a rather full cinnamon/brown cap which is supportive of Gilded Flicker. Finally, the bird called quite a bit. Its call notes were higher pitched than Northern Flicker. A male Gilded Flicker.
